In the Shadow of a Story is an editorial series focused on narratives left out of dominant histories, stories and forms made invisible by mechanisms of power, hierarchy, and forgetting.

This first edition is dedicated to the history of Haiti’s double debt imposed by France. The project uses a double-reading device, where stereotypical representations of Haiti literally obscure the pages of the hidden historical narrative. Cut-outs in the pages allow readers to gradually uncover these fragments through interaction with the publication. Inspired by experimental editorial devices, this technique turns the act of reading into an act of revelation and awareness. The project aims to question the construction of historical narratives and make visible what has been deliberately hidden.
